The third stop on our tour of Ohio photography locations is Polen Farm in Dayton Ohio. Zac and I have really loved shooting weddings at this location. It has a ton to offer if you are looking for a “country” charm without having to go to a literal farm. There are open fields, huge trees, barns, awesome landscaping, a gorgeous farmhouse, and many other photo popping backdrops and settings. The entire property is taken care of extremely well and all of the buildings have a great layout and purpose for the event. I really enjoy shooting at Polen Farm because it is easy to navigate while at the same time offering a lot of photography options in a small walking area. Today’s post will be a quick look into all this place has to offer and a couple of reasons Green Couch Photography loves shooting it.
Don’t get confused when I say “farm-like.” I’m not talking about muddy barns, animal smells, and haystacks. Polen Farm has done an incredible job remodeling and re-structuring their farm into a beautiful, functional facility for events while maintaining all of the charm. If you are looking for a truly unique look without leaving the city and having to deal with all of the obvious downfalls of using a real farm…this is the place for you. The farmhouse has been completely updated and is great for getting ready. It offers a huge variety of beautiful, light filled, glass windows. This makes our job easy when it comes to make-up, wedding dress, and getting ready shots. The house is also surrounded with a variety of staircases, unique trees, walkways, and flowers, which provide optimal picturesque backgrounds for beautiful pictures. In addition to the house you will find an amazing gazebo for the outdoor ceremony complete with seating and incredible views. The shots we were able to get here are still some of my favorites to this day. After the ceremony, the reception is held on the property’s large white barn. The upstairs is truly breathtaking, especially when it is all lit up at night for an event. Some of our best dancing shots were taken in this incredible barn.
Photographically versatile venue
Many times, as a photographer, you feel trapped into shooting the same type of shots over and over because the place just doesn’t offer a lot of options…this is the opposite with Polen Farm. I would not be doing Polen Farm justice if I did not mention how versatile the property is. We have been able to get a huge variety of shots while shooting at this location and I honestly believe we haven’t even began to tap into it’s potential. For this reason alone I think it is a great place to consider for hosting a venue. Because everything is kept up so nicely and taken care of, we were able to use the outside walls of the barn for group shots, the flower lined walkways, and the grassy areas. I found it especially amazing that they even landscape and groom the parking lot area. We didn’t take any pictures in the parking lot…thankfully…but if we had to, I think we could actually make it work at this place. We definitely give this place two thumbs up and look forward to opportunities to shoot here in the future.
